Day 4 – Vienna: Bicycles

Sunday, December 11th, 2005

This one made me think of Geoff & Sang.

Walking around at Vienna at night, having just arrived, we ran into a unique element of Vienna’s public transportation system: bicycles.

The bikes you see aren’t for rent – they’re for free. Anyone’s who registered can check one out.

To register, all you have to do is insert an ATM card (to verify your identity) and you get a little plastic card, much like a modern library card. You use the card to check bikes in & out at each location, and you don’t even have to return the bike to the same spot you checked it out from.

If you ever had to transfer from a train to a bus line a few blocks away, that has to make it a heck of a lot easier. Likewise, if you just needed to go down, run a few errands, and then head back home.

To borrow from my freshly departed British brethren, that’s bloody brilliant.

Javascript & HREF tricks?

Friday, December 9th, 2005

Are there any javascript tricks you play so that whenever someone clicks on a link for a page (a page you own), instead of going directly to the HREF it’ll call a function? Kinda like a global override for a page?

Yummy! Back to del.icio.us!!

Friday, December 9th, 2005

Over lunch at Fogo I heard the news that Yahoo bought del.icio.us. Awesome! Welcome to delicious gang!

Most importantly, this means I can switch, guilt-free, from MyWeb back to del.icio.us. =)

Apprentice Finale Speculation

Friday, December 9th, 2005

It’s down to the final two: Randal and Rebecca. Two of possibly the best candidates seen so far on the four seasons of the Apprentice.

Despite my strong leanings towards Rebecca (after all, she’s a fellow U of C hottie (and, yes, I am a hottie)), I don’t expect her to emerge as the sole finalist.

Instead, my prediction is that The Donald hires them both.

Think about it: He fired four people earlier in the season and the episode just before last night he fired two more. Batch firings were certainly the theme for this season. So why not batch hirings?

Remember, my friends, I’ve been right before.

Damn it.
