Etrade, You Suck

Tuesday, November 1st, 2005

This morning I wanted to logon to my Etrade account, just to check on my Yahoo ESPP. After trying what I thought where my name & password, I got an error saying that after too many invalid attempts, I need to contact a service rep to have them unlock my account. Not too surprising, as I tend to have different passwords everywhere and it can take me a few guess to remember what algorithm I used for that particular site.

Here’s the massive Etrade suckage part: After waiting on hold for 15 minutes the agent explained they were having problems their site and had me confirm I actually had the correct username & password. In other words, Etrade had me waste my time and wait on hold for 15 $&%&^%# minutes (and make it look like my fault) rather than just show a simple @*#$%& “Sorry, we’re having problems” page.

If I had any say in the matter, I’d close my account. I can understand having site problems — especially having worked for a lot of online companies — but deceiving your users and making them wait on hold? Absolutely unacceptable. I wonder if for their next customer service promotion they’ll offer to shit in your mouth.
