Planning Continued

Tuesday, October 4th, 2005

Dan & my travel agent duked it out today to figure out which one would have the honor of booking my stay while in London. It was like I was the fair maiden with two suitors vying for my affection. At last, I’m the prettiest girl in the class.

Anyway, Dan won. He basically just said “uh-huh” and “yeah” while the agent explained the reasons, but finished with “well, let me think about it”, which of course, quickly morphed into a no. I don’t actually care too much who won — I just wanted it settled. Something tells me that the lack of planning, 6 days out from departure, isn’t normal. Apparently, we’re no longer hitting Czech either, but will be visiting Vienna. Go figure.

Tomorrow I have to run around getting sunglasses & possibility boots from REI (trip #2), make copies of various important documents (passport, etc.), hit kinkos for extra copies of passport photos, and radio shack for a power adapter, and make a pass at packing to see what can fit & what can’t.

Wednesday night, I’m hoping to piece together a tentative agenda for Rome & London. Any recommendations/must-sees/favorites anyone would care to pass along?

Eagle Creek Switchback Max ES Wheeled Pack

Monday, October 3rd, 2005

On Brandon’s advice, I picked up a Eagle Creek Switchback Max ES Wheeled Pack 25 for my trip to Europe. It has wheels, like a normal roller bag, making it easy to lug around airports, etc. But for those areas where you want a traditional backpack (stairs, cobblestone streets, etc.) it has hidden straps so you can wear it like a internal frame backpack. It also has a detachable pack up front, so you can leave your clothes back in the hotel, detach the daypack, with maps, bottles of water, etc.

Very cool.

Haaarrrr!!

Somehow the following link came up over a couple of beers on Friday, and one of my coworkers mentioned she had never heard of it. It’s fairly old (and has even been in Harper’s since), but, re-reading it now, it’s still pretty damn funny:

God bless the Internet.

Old Town Pasadena Homeless Guys

Sunday, October 2nd, 2005

I’m listening/watching Wil Wheaton read from Just a Geek at the ‘04 Gnomedex. He’s started off with a tale about being in Old Town Pasadena, and made a slight digression to tell about on his most recent trip he saw two homeless guys arguing over a cover. The first was pissed at the second because he thought the second would get more money with his wheelchair than he would with his dog.

Funny — I know exactly which two guys he’s talking about.
