Last Bit on 2004 Election
I’d promised myself I woudn’t write anything more about politics for a long while, but I saw the following and felt the need to pass it along:

Not surprisingly, I don’t agree with a lot of general politics there, but several excellent points. Most notably:
”How could people be so stupid as to vote for Bush?”
* I can’t tell you how much I hate that meme. People aren’t stupid for voting for Bush. celticdragonfly said it best here. I’ve heard many people say, “It only turns people off to say such things” but she is the the first person I’ve seen put it clearly into words that explain the why. The type of personality that would propagate that meme is the same personality that won’t change their behavior unless they know the “why”. Thanks to Laura for writing that article.
And that’s from a guy who did helluva a lot more to help the Democrats win than you did.
Very well said Laura. Thanks for writing it as well.

Anti-Bush people feel royally screwed by Bush and his administration and cannot contextualize why someone would vote for him.
It’s so far from the realm of understanding.
Republicans are all about morals I guess, morals that gay people don’t have. I have seen people hate before and I can picture that as the reason why Bush won.
However, I can’t picture how a Bush supporter can logically think that Bush has made the nation safer or better economically or created more trust in government.
I like Jon Stewart’s sentiment that city the that is most affected by terrorism and has a large population of gay people, New York, voted something like 85%/10% against Bush. And yet the rural bible-beaters decided the election based on the issues that they have little of understanding of.
I think of Bush as the president that spreads fears, lies, and hate.

I think of Bush as the president that causes leftists to spread fear, lies, and hate. Have you seen more hateful rhetoric than what was being spewed by the masses suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrom? Hooray for standing up for ourselves and a big NYAH! to the Nevil Chamberlain-esque appeasers
