Disappointment with the Left

Wednesday, June 30th, 2004

Long day, so quick entry. An Op-ed piece in today’s NYT did a good job expressing my frustration with a lot of “Anyone but Bush!” and F-9/11 pieces of late:

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/06/30/opinion/30KRIS.html

Two quotes in particular:

  • “I’m against the “liar” label for two reasons. First, it further polarizes the political cesspool, and this polarization is making America increasingly difficult to govern. Second, insults and rage impede understanding.”

  • “…liberals love subtlety and describe the world in a palette of grays — yet many have now dropped all nuance about this president.”

Earthquake!

Monday, June 28th, 2004

Man, it’s a good thing I moved to California to get away from those Illinois earthquakes:

Magnitude 4.5 Earthquake Strikes Midwest.

This was about 40 or so miles away from my hometown of Joliet.

What’s your name again?

If you know me, you’ll know why I find today’s dilbert so sweet.

If you don’t know, you should that at least one guy in my fraternity went by the name George because I couldn’t remember his name was Pete.

I’m Not Dead

Friday, June 18th, 2004

I think I was hazed last night by Overture. Man. One too many shots of Ouzo.

Originially, after the work thing, Sang & I were supposed to meet folks over at Lucky Baldwin’s for Beer Night. Considering I wasn’t moving more than 10′ without puking (my apologies to anyone on Union St.), I think Sang decided that might not be a good idea. Having taken some enemy fire & being in not-too-good shape himself, he called for backup. Brandon & Geoff where kind enough to come & drive us home. I’m not sure what happened after that, but I woke up around 5am this morning with this note on the nightstand:

Oww

Mental pain: Teen girls in Old Town, “Like, the Beasties Boys are so old.”

(Lame girls anyway. Unlike the awesome that is Teen Girl Squad! They have to be totally crushin’ on Mike D. I mean, who isn’t? Nice eyes and soooo rebellious, but then I’ve always gone for the bad bo… I mean COOL! He’s COOL. Yeah, ignore all that other stuff. That was, um, one of the HOT GIRLS sitting on the couch next to me. ‘cuz you know, there’s tons of ‘em just wandering around my apartment.)

Physical pain: I signed up for Brazillian Jiu Jitsu with Sang today. Class was about an hour and half in which we learned some basic moves & the how to combine them together. I cannot describe the moves here, not because it’s an ancient Brazillian, secret, but because like all grabling moves, they sound slightly…. gay, involving terms such as “groin”, “thurst”, “mount”, “submit” — and that’s the just we learned today.

We threw each other around just like we were back in college — despite the fact we’re both now in our thirties. Some things never get old. All you punks who used to kick sand in my face at the beach better watch yourselves.

Oh yeah, and according to their blog, my two favorite Mac-heads & Northern California’s coolest couple, Ben & Lisa, have moved into their new pimpin’ house! Congrats! Fury & Forst, god-speed & good eating!

Oh yeah, and America’s number one maniac & favorite whore, Brandon Ammann, got a blog today!

(Oh yeah, and Foster said I could link to his blog over on the left today, just not announce it here.)

Screw you, gmail!

Yahoo’s thrown down the gaunlet and is now offering 2 gigs of mail. I guess there’s no reason to switch over to my gmail account now.

To The 5 Boroughs

Monday, June 14th, 2004

Cool — despite not being listed on the Beastie Boys website as one of stores that will have a midnight selling of To The 5 Boroughs, it turns out the local Tower, just a few blocks away, is open to midnight & thus will be selling in the last few minutes the store is open as well.

Rock on.

Color Wheels

Sunday, June 13th, 2004

Okay, maybe you learned this in 2nd grade art class, but this color wheel thing I found exceptionally cool. I’ve never really had a sense of what colors go with what. I mean, if someone else does it, I can appreciate it and go “wow, that goes really well together”, but never would have thought of it myself. In total nerd-fashion, this has often agitated me in that I thus don’t have pleasing syntax-highlighting settings in emacs. I feel that’s about to improve.

In other news, motivated by the coolness in my brother’s blog & recently signing up for PCS Vision, I went and set up my own moblog. It’s cool regardless if you’re out seeing Chronicles of Riddick, going to see crazy people’s new kittens, or just out for lunch. Geoff set one up too and he and I have had some amusing back & forth with our phones.

(Oh yeah, and Foster’s got his own blog now!)

Looks like Gmail’s given users another six invites. If you want one, feel free to drop me a line at wdr1@pobox.com.

(You could use william.reardon@gmail.com, but I don’t check it that often.)
