Harry Potter

Well, unless you’re living under a rock, you’ve heard the Harry Potter book is out.

I should be too embarassed to admit this, but I went to a midnight selling at our local Borders. It was a mad house. I had expected a little craziness, but… man… this was over the top. Jammed parking lot, a line several blocks long, and absolutely no organization. That poor organization became a slap in the face when they told the man 8 people ahead of us that there were no more books. This, after waiting from 11:45 to 12:45. (And keep in mind there were several hundrend people in line behind us waiting as well, and no effort was being made to tell them they might as well go home.)

It’s kinda the straw on the camel’s back for me. I’ll still continue to go to Border’s bookstores in general, but probably not this particular location. The staff is unhelpful. The selection is weak. And I’m fairly sure whoever is in charge of laying out the store, and promoting books readers might find interesting, is illiterate. I’m a bit of impulse book buyer, but have never bought a book on impulse from them. Go figure.

Anyway, I was able to pick up my copy at Costco this morning anyway. The line was even shorter than Borders! I never thought I’d think the lines for Costco were short, but there go.

Then again, not sure why I rushed out to get it, since I still have 100 pages in Ellen Ullman’s The Bug.
