I ate a deep fried twinkie today.

I’m not kidding.

After something like 5 years, I updated my homepage. There was all this clutter and random bits. I first set it up back in ‘97 when I was a Maclab tutor. It was pretty much a playground to try out new HTML tags as it went to version 0.9, then 1.0, and so on, or a way to display images I’d created fiddling around Photoshop.

While the servers it was hosted on moved a few times, largely the content was the same. I just tarred up my old account, lock, stock and barrel, scp’ed it to the new box, and unpacked everything there.

But now away with all that. Away with all the graphics & silly crap. Well, at least most of it. (Some of it just had sentimental value.)

I’ve decided for me there are really only four useful things I need a site for:

  • Online photo ablum
  • Blog
  • Projects
  • Data repository

So the goal was to do all that as simply as possible. It’s not fancy, but I think the new version achieves that goal.

oooo…. pretty

Well, after several hours, I think I’ve crafted my blog visual presentation into something that at least doesn’t scream “I’M AN ENGINEER!”

It’d be nice if MT made it easier to pull in themes & also hosted, or worked with someone who hosted the various templates and designs. After google’ing a bit for “movetable tyle templates designs” I found some that I like. I hacked it a bit, but still mostly there design.

I like the green. Green’s always been my favorite color and it slightly evokes the feeling of an old monocrome Apple ][. (Yes, it’s not nearly as bright. I tried a green that was closer, but wow, that was hard to look at it for any extended period of time.)

All an in all, a good activity for the evening, as it didn’t require much but sitting on the couch. A good activity when one’s belly is filled with Turkey and other barn yard animals.
